Startin' to think about my Halloween Marathon ...

Sparked by the sudden “omg!” last night that I might actually have missed the 30th anniversary of the release of Halloween, lol … not to worry, it was (according to the IMdb) originally released on the 25th. So I know what I’ll be watching that day. I’m kinda bummed that there don’t seem to have been any plans for a theatrical re-release - I’m sure somebody told me not long ago that there were such plans, ‘cos I’d written somewhere about how it probably needs to be seen on the big screen to be really terrifying again or something (I honestly have a personal preference for some of the sequels and the remake lol).

Anyway I was thinking that gives me a week headstart on Halloween itself and that’s just exactly how many sequels there are so I’ll maybe watch those on the days running up and I intend to do the same with the other franchises like Freddy and Jason etc during the rest of October. For the day itself, it’s an opportunity to add some notches to my first-time viewings count for the year, lol - so in the mix will be Mirrors, Teeth, The Strangers, a Jodelle Ferland double-bill (Seed and Bloodrayne 2), P2, the original Dark Water, and the Angela Bettis-directed, Lucky McKee starring (major May connection so I hope I’m not disappointed, lol) Roman. I’ve got a neat sounding anthology movie called The Vault of Horror on the Sky+ too. Hopin’ to track down a screening(/screener lol) of Flick, too. Of course I’ll have to fit The Exorcist in there somewhere. My book for the month is “Wicked” hehe …

In the meantime, the disarray of my usual reviewing habit on Ambival.net will probably continue ‘cos I’m workin’ on a ton of Halloweenie things in SL. I’ll organise myself sooner or later, I’m sure …

A film about a talking chihuahua is number one at the box office, it’s a sign of the apocalypse.
— Tim Robbins on The Daily Show (paraphrased) … lol, he so took the words out of my mouth. I usually bite my tongue about stuff like this ‘cos, y’know, there’s not exactly anything can be done about it etc … but when I saw the charts yesterday I really felt a little sick and almost posted something there and then. Guh. Additional: you know what, what bugged me possibly more was Jon Stewart’s statement that parents “have to” take their kids to these movies. Why?

Look … would everyone except the big bang people leave?
— ROFL - I think my boss wondered what I was smoking last night when he passed me listening to the last Ricky Gervais podcasts. I wasn’t expecting much from it from the reviews, some of which even complained about the quality of the sound recording but also said it was a rehash of old material. I didn’t get any of this … they probably would’ve done themselves favours by not calling it a “series” and rather a very long bonus episode (downloading from iTunes you get just one file split into 4 chapters). Anyway easily worth £2.95, it made the hump of my work shift breeze by.

14 Days ... Done!

Well I am pooped but happy :)

I’m sorry I didn’t update here with stream details and whatnot about my SL live shows … it just proved to get me far to busy to much of anything else, lol - but the good news is, I’m BUZZED, and there will be more. I sang my 14 shows in less than 14 days even despite getting behind schedule in the first week (I’ve done 2 shows a night almost each night this week). I had at least 3 offers from places that want me to sing for them, I had a good handful of people who I feel I genuinely touched, one in particular with one of my original songs … I even had one astonishingly generous soul build me a new keyboard for the stage, lol. Most of all, I feel like I started to learn how to talk to an audience, and I got my sound a little better the more I played too. Even mistakes become part of the show - you get people saying they like the laugh I make when I get lost lol. Late last week I started to really try planning the show and setlist and stuff and it was to my detrement. As this week began I decided to just go back to what was working - playing whatever I found in front of me, just keeping the music coming as fast as possible and not really thinking about whether it “worked” or not - unless someone made a specific request. And I think I found a system that works.

Anyway I’m just thrilled and I can’t wait to sing at these other places, it’ll feel even more “real” then. In all I made almost $50 which considering the crowd rarely was larger than 5 people is pretty awesome … it’s more than enough to pay the beach fees for another month anyway which is all I really care about :)

Soul Sisters by *surlaroute on deviantART - I don’t usually do this but I’m so proud of this, my latest assignment for ArtKnock, the art class I’m attending in Second Life. We looked at the work of Akiane who I’d heard of before and there were a lot of options for this assignment including like just writing a report on her but I chose to try emulating her style ‘cos I just love working in Art Rage. I chose her early pastels from when she was 6 since 1) that’s my avatar’s age and 2) it’s just less daunting, LOL. So this is me and my SL big sis Harmonia and I call it “Soul Sisters”.

Happy Day

This is one of those things that to me warrants babbling i’th’extreme on all my web presences. At the same time as being a celebration, it’s kind of an excuse and apology for my absence like, say, in my movie reviews on ambival.net (I have been watchin’ the movies, honest, as my lists mostly attest … I just haven’t had time to dissect my opinion of them, lol).

And I didn’t quite know how to report all the happenings - in fact, I didn’t know at first whether to report them at all this particular time. But of the many quotes that came in my head this happy day, one of them was that line in “Into the Wild”: “Happiness only real when shared …” … so I share it further …

I wrote about my SL avatar and I won’t set it up all over again, you’ll either accept that I have a TG child avi in SL or you won’t and that’s okay, just stay or walk away. And you might know of my losing a really special relationship a few months ago which left that avi an SL orphan who never thought she’d ever find someone to replace that special person.

Well … someone who I have kinda-sorta known because she attends almost as many Kimmee shows as I do in SL … she imed me, I think it was ‘cos I noticed she was pregnant and we were talking about that and she said she and her hubby were gonna adopt a girl, and that led to her saying she’d thought about asking me. Only, I had this thing in my profile saying I did not want a new mommy right now so that had deterred her. Funny thing is, on more than one occasion I had looked at her and the thought had crossed my mind that of all the people I knew in SL, if I had to pick, it’d so be her. This kinda came out fluffed, like, “OMG that’s so weird!!!!” LOL But we both recognised how cool and unignorable the coincidence was so … long story short … I’ve joined a fairly large SL family :) And they are absolutely awesome.

While all of this is going on - this really wasn’t part of my plan for these two weeks at home alone, lol. The plan was to catch up on movies, to do a live Casper show in SL each day, and the latest addition to all of that was to keep up with the Wii Fit regime (more on that I guess another time, hehe). And I’ve been keeping up with the Casper shows, as the last short entry should attest … well, today on my third show, I’d put it on at an awkward time and I didn’t expect anyone to show up. Ultimately though, the “crowd” was the same - an average, steady 5. That doesn’t sound like anything I know but it’s more than I have any right to expect, lol; and it’s kind of led to my creating a kind of catchphrase for the audience: “Thanks for coming; thanks for staying.” ‘Cos it’s the ones that stay that mean the most. Anyway among those 5 today was someone who runs a venue. And they want me to play there, and they’re British! It’s just too much lol. They really sounded like they liked me, and they’re not the first this week. I’ve got all kinds of problems with my sound that I intend to fix over the next few days, I’m really not coming out the best I know I can sound and yet people are coming and listening and staying for an hour with me, lol!

So anyway .. there’s that too. LOL.

So, today, because it was at a Kimmee show that we met, new mommy and I decided to surprise her and she set it all up by telling Kimmee she had a surprise and Kimmee TP’ed (teleported) her somewhere and then she TP’ed me there and we had these matching dresses on and our tags say mommy and daughter. I was a little apprehensive about this because sometimes I’m never quite sure how comfy Kimmee is with a child avi in her audience let alone an encounter like this. But she was really happy. Not only that, but the place she TP’ed us too was her own sim, and she then spent 15 minutes, even though she had a show within the half hour coming up, showing us around, lol. It’s an AMAZING sim to rival my faves Livingtree and Here - oh yes, there’ll be pics of all this day on Flickr of course :)

Then we went to her show. I requested her Butterfly song cos new mommy loves butterflies but instead I got two songs sung for me from them. Later Kimmee apologised cos she didn’t get my request - there’ll be other times, hehe. At her second show though she dedicated Amazing Grace to me again - at the Lily Pad of all places, where it all began kinda :)

I went to two Harmonia shows as well today, both amazing as ever … I told other fans who’ve come to know me about my new family and I had at least two people say things to the effect of “I didn’t know you were looking for parents!” to which I could only answer, y’know the funny thing is I wasn’t? lol.

But the capper of the evening was a fireworks show by Marianne McCann … I’ve probably missed so many of these lately because I don’t get home from work in time on a Saturday … even though it meant missing half a Harmonia show, I couldn’t miss this one because it sounded huge … and boy was it. I don’t usually play the music on Livingtree but because of all the shows I’d been to it ended up playing automatically. It was solo piano music. I sat down on the edge of the water looking up at Mari’s fireworks and I saw these little birds circling and that image with all the love that’s been given me in so few days, mixed in with that piano music … I just haven’t cried so many happy tears in so long. It was just the perfect moment to end a perfect day. Second Life is just divine.
